“Glorifying Christ—Living for Others”

Vision For The 8:00 Liturgy At All Saints

We envision an 8 o’clock Sunday service that radiates the holiness of Christ and uplifts the congregation with the joy of the Holy Spirit. We seek a service that will bring those assembled into communion with Christ in a way that brings both comfort and inspiration. We seek to offer a liturgy with such dignity and grace that new members will be attracted to All Saints, swelling our attendance beyond our imagination.

In many ways, the style of the 8 a.m. Eucharist will echo the church service of thirty or forty years ago. The service will be entirely Rite I, rather than including portions from Rite II. The bulletin will be especially for the 8:00 service and will be in outline form, with page numbers provided. The congregation will give the responses either from memory or by using the Book of Common Prayer. The prayers and the Bible lessons will be read from their respective books, rather than from a bulletin. For those who have difficulty hearing, printed texts of the Bible lessons will be available at the back of the nave. As was true in services many parishioners attended years ago, familiar hymns will be sung to the praise of God. The music will be familiar, easy to sing, and suited to the range of voices in the congregation.

Longtime Episcopalians are likely to experience these revisions as a homecoming. We only hope that you are not too surprised, upon exiting the church, to discover that it is no longer 1967!"
