All Saints Episcopal Church

Carmel, California

“Glorifying Christ—Living for Others”

All Saints is named after countless ordinary and extraordinary people who have dedicated themselves to participating in God’s life. Like these saints, we know Jesus Christ to be the perfect expression of God’s love and we desire to share that love in both word and deed. We are a congregation of the Episcopal Church, a church that historically has taken a middle way between Roman Catholicism and Protestant traditions. Holding the broad middle ground against extreme interpretations of the message of Christ, we strive to be a safe place in which there are no outcasts and all are welcome.

We are a church that maintains unity among people of different beliefs by our practice of consistent, orderly and participatory worship, also known as “liturgy.” The liturgy provides a wellspring of spiritual nurture for our common life. While we offer worship in a variety of styles, our services share a structure and sensibility with roots in ancient tradition. We read and hear the Holy Scriptures, and reflect on thoughtful and stirring preaching that relates the age-old stories of encountering God to contemporary life and concerns. We complete our service of praise and thanksgiving with Holy Communion, joyfully receiving the gift of Christ’s presence within and among us. Surrounded as we are by both stunning natural scenery and many artistic expressions of beauty, we respond with awe and reverence.

Our active parish life offers people with diverse gifts opportunities to grow in friendship with one another and service to Christ through others. From singing in the choir for Sunday worship to filling grocery bags for our Food Pantry to gathering with the Friends of St. Benedict for study and contemplation, we are a community that seeks to demonstrate the love we profess.

All Saints cherishes nearly one hundred years of sacred history. We began in 1910 with a small group of residents gathering in a local restaurant and in 1912 officially became an Episcopal congregation. The original church building now serves as the City Hall for Carmel. We moved to our current location over fifty years ago and shortly afterward started All Saints’ Day School. Other missions include Santa Lucia Chapel and Campgrounds (Big Sur) and Epiphany Lutheran Episcopal (Marina).

We look optimistically toward the future that God sets before us, and are in an exciting time of seeking God’s future for All Saints. We invite you to join our adventure into that future.
